This course presents a unique new integrated system
for creating well-balanced herb combinations that are both
effective and safe.
Herb Combining in Western Herbal Medicine
The main problem in the practice of Western herbal medicine
has been the lack of a system of theoretical principles for
creating a balanced herb combination.
The Galenic theory system has not been in use for two centuries,
and attempts to explain herb choice in terms of either Physiomedicalism
or conventional Western medicine have not been wholly satisfactory.
A New Integrated System
The principles of herb combination used in this course integrates
concepts from Western herbal tradition, Chinese medicine and
modern phytochemistry. This new system is developed in Jeremy's
ground-breaking text Combining Western Herbs
and Chinese Medicine.
Principles of Herb Combination
This course shows how to create balanced Western herb combinations,
by choosing herbs according to the principles of:
- temperature
- taste
- actions
- organs entered
Herb pairs and trios: This course emphasizes
the importance of herb pairs and trios as the basic units
of herb combination.
3 Different Methods Of Herb Combining
This course is unique in presenting three very different
ways of creating a new Western herb combination.
- Modify a pre-existing combination
- Create a new combination
from singles, pairs, & trios: the working
units of a of a herb combination
- Combine elements of 2-3
pre-existing combinations: this is the advanced
art of herb combination
Prerequisite: Participants on this
course must already have completed the 1-day Herb Tasting
workshop with Jeremy Ross.

together with the 1-day Herb Tasting Workshop , make
up Module 1 of the Basic 9-day
Course.
