Basic
9 Day Course Introduction

This course contains a wealth of unique new material
from Jeremy's book Combining Western Herbs
and Chinese Medicine the required text for the course"
Integrated Approach
This course combines 2000 years
of Western herbal tradition with traditional Chinese
medicine and modern pharmacology research. This unique integration
provides a new level of understanding that can resolve many
of the difficulties and controversies of the past. It can
give a broader and deeper understanding of the individual
herbs, enabling more sophisticated herb combinations that
are both safer and more effective.
Course Contents
Herbal energetics Over 40 Western herbs
are discussed, giving detail of temperature, taste, meridians
entered, actions, and uses. There is emphasis on practical
details of dose and dispensing, and on considerations of safety.
How to create herb combinations This course
is unique in presenting three very different ways of creating
a new Western herb combination.
Treatment of disorders Each disorder is
subdivided into Chinese syndromes, and a Western herbal combination
is given for each of these Chinese syndromes, with modifications,
where appropriate. Practitioners can immediately use these
combinations in clinical practice.
Practical Training
Herb tasting Samples of about 20 Western
herbs will be available for tasting in infusion, decoction,
or tincture form.
Work with patients Practitioners on this
course participate in the diagnosis and Western herbal prescription
for 4 patients. Participants learn how to modify combinations,
not only to match the patients’ individual needs, but
also to overcome temporary setbacks in recovery.
